Foreign Objects Beer Company
New Paltz, NY
I feel so blessed to live in Upstate NY. Others may disagree, but I really believe that we live in the epicenter of an amazing array of breweries delivering a superb class of beer. Also, how awesome is it to have family scattered about the state and northeast region? Any family visit, that we may or may not want to travel for, is always enhanced with a quick run to a local brewery. I am thrilled that Foreign Objects Beer Company is just a road trip away. Ulster county cousins, I'm coming to see you!

Does not disappoint. Slightly bitter finish but worth every bit of it. Better with each sip. There's more grape than I would have thought from Galaxy and Mosaic, but it works!
Look at that pizza, just look at it! That, my friend, is a cheeseburger pizza, with ketchup and mustard sauce! And yes, those are pickles! How? Why? Oh no! It wasn’t gross, it was delicious! We picked it up at Aldi on Saturday. The ketchup and mustard sauce may sound odd to you, but it was perfection. You know how most burger pizzas taste like pizza with hamburger meat thrown on it? This tasted like a cheeseburger in the shape of a pizza! How awesome is that!? And what do you pair this cheeseburger-ific pizza with? Why your latest cache from Westmere Beverage of course!

Yyyesss!! Really hard to make this last more than five minutes. It’s best to buy a case!! It’s peach-orange tropical juice. Not even discernable bitterness. Zero booze. Wonderfully smooth mouth feel. Absolutely incredible. I really want to try Torque Wrench, the imperial version. Embarrassed that I haven’t been there yet…soon…

Not sure why there isn’t more love for this one in terms of ratings. It’s not a northeast hazy juice bomb, but it’s very tasty, very solid if you crave hops, not boozy at all for 8%, and not nearly as bitter as reviews would lead you to believe. Well balanced with a dry finish… just makes me want another sip!
I will admit, this week has not been particularly exciting in our little brew world. But that is generally how life works. One week you are riding high on can releases and visits to exceptional taverns for some great beers and food. The next week you are just simply thrilled that you got that tenth punch on your Brew Crew Growler card from Westmere Beverage! Derek grabbed Pixie Dust and Thunder Tiger on Friday’s visit. They still had cans of Wrench too, one of his favorite beers.
If you read in my 1/16/2108 post about Delaware Supply, you’ll know that Colin and Lauren, the owners of Delaware Supply, came out from Westmere to build their craft beer bar. Derek has been visiting Westmere for at least three years has gotten to know the Brew Crew over time. And they’ve gotten to know and like him too. Every so often there’s a growler left behind the counter for Derek after a keg tap and he often heads out to Westmere with a couple of his own cans to trade with them as friends. This definitely is his go to beer store and without equal in the Albany area. It’s no wonder they’ve been voted The Capital District’s Best Beer Store so many years in a row. They always have the best selections on tap and in cans. Derek can’t say enough about the Brew Crew. Not only are they incredibly knowledgeable when it comes to craft beers, but they really do care about the beer itself and making sure that you get the most out of it.
I asked Derek to take some photos. We have Brew Crew Member, Matt, holding Derek's punch card. Not sure if Matt was into having his photo taken, but there he is! We also have the manager, Jeremy, standing outside the store looking like the happy man he is.
LIC Beer Project, from Long Island City, visited Scotia, NY for a 3 can release on Saturday and Derek and I have been enjoying the rewards! He's been wearing the t-shirt today and using his new LIC teku glass he picked up with his cans.
Read below for Derek's taste!
Both Sides of the Rainbow
Wow!! Tropical fruit medley with a pleasing, and not overly bitter finish.
LIC does it again. Like the other 2 beers in this most recent release. Excellent!
Lots of flavor for 5.5%!
That hops combo is a slam dunk. Not thin on mouth feel for a smaller ABV beer either.
Late Night Sun
This is right up there with Both Sides of the Rainbow! It's not as complex, but super juicy, super tropical and has very restrained bitterness. It also has a seriously creamy mouth feel from the oats, like Both sides of the Rainbow. LIC is making some of the best IPAs out there!
We can say we were there!
LIC Beer Project’s first upstate can release at Mohawk Taproom in Scotia!
Derek was there early to get his line ticket and had a table already for when I showed up a bit later for lunch. I squeezed through the crowd to the table he shared with his friends, Sean and Scott. Derek was excited about the beer he had in his hand. “This is Hill Farmstead Abner! Taste this!” he exclaimed, “I have been waiting 2 years to try this beer!” I sipped his glass as I took of my coat and sat down, it was delicious! I ordered the Beyond Veggie Burger with edamame slaw. I want to be very clear, I’m not a vegetarian, but I loved this burger!
Mohawk Taproom was loud and crowded for the can release but, as a true testament of a well-run bar, we still got our individual service with smiles and damn fine beers.
The call out soon came for the line to start forming for the can sales. I stayed inside warm and toasty with a margarita while the guys went out to stand in line for Electric Lady Pale Ale, Both Sides of the Rainbow DIPA and Late Night Sun DIPA and some T-shirts!
Delaware Supply opened its doors in November 2017. Derek knew the owners, Colin and Lauren, as part of the Brew Crew from Westmere Beverage in Guilderland. When this couple found the site for Delaware Supply they brought in their extensive beer knowledge and used the most important rule of real estate: Location, Location, Location! They found the perfect place in which to open this unique Craft Beer Bar, snuggled between the Spectrum 8 Theatres and New World Bistro in Albany.
Derek and I visited one afternoon in between movie going crowds and before New World Bistro opened up for dinner. Colin and Lauren were both there, they saw Derek and welcomed us in like old friends. I soon realized that’s how they greet everyone, as an old friend stopping over for a drink and maybe a snack. We stuck around for a bit and had a few tastes and also took advantage of their To Go service. Derek has great plans for his future there as a regular. Currently Delaware Supply is on the opposite side of the county for us, but we are rebuilding our home soon and will be renting less than 2 miles away. Derek is eager to be closer to Delaware Supply, even if only for a few months. Again, Location, Location, Location!
We’ve heard a lot about Tipsy Moose and their extensive Tap Menu of regional beers. Derek and I have been talking about getting over there to check it out, maybe have a date night... But since we work opposite schedules and have 2 small children we settled for meeting there for lunch with our friend Cassandra after I spent the morning running around to appointments with the kids.
Derek was especially excited to find DDH Lambo Door there on tap. “This was 8% breakfast juice!” he said, “and I know where of I speak because I have had it with eggs and bacon!” (Thank you Mr. Riddervold!) Now there are places that serve you good amounts of good food. Tipsy Moose is not one of those places. Tipsy Moose serves massive amounts of amazing food! As it was a Monday the brunch menu wasn’t up so Derek paired his DDH Lambo Door with Beer-Battered Turkey Reuben. Yes, beer battered…deep fried…Reuben. It was colossal! We figure they swapped out the corned beef with turkey to cut the richness. He described is as “Pure Decadence!”
Our 7 year old discovered the Build Your Own Mac & Cheese on the menu and chose pulled pork and bacon. Again, Tipsy Moose gives massive amounts! He ate as much as his tummy could handle, which was a pretty good amount, and Derek still made 2 large meals out of what we brought home.
Our daughter, who is of more refined taste, had the white broccoli pizza. My mouth is watering just thinking about that pizza. She managed to share her pizza with the whole table, eat herself into food coma, and still had slices to bring home.
Cassandra and I each had the Black & Blue salad, sooo yummy, sooo BIG. Seriously, when planning to go to Tipsy Moose, plan to drink gorgeous beers and eat leftovers for the next 2 days! Now, for the next time, I’m told to order the Poutine Fries and a flight of Mac & Cheese. They update their Tap Menu often so check it out here.
Lone Pint Brewery
Yellow Rose is Derek's current favorite. I like to think it's because the girl on the bottle reminds him a little of me.... wishful thinking. The truth is, it's a mouthwatering, delicious beer!
Derek's Taste -
It's the best, fullest, most satisfying and engaging expression of Mosaic (probably my favorite hops, just edging out Citra) I can recall. It's dank and tropical, but it's also the fruitiest, biggest berry flavor I've ever gotten from a Mosaic beer. It's grown on me to the point where I appreciate it more with each tasting, and crave it more each time I run out!!
I said engaging because I get more out of it each time...how can a SMaSH beer be this complex?
Single malt, single hop (SMaSH)
All Citra Everything
Other Half Brewing Company
It never ceases to amaze me how many gorgeous flavors and textures can come from brewed hops. All Citra Everything blew my mind. Derek and I came to the same conclusion regarding its taste and look, beer milkshake!
Derek's Taste -
This was as serious Citra milkshake. It was such an excellent representation of Citra with its SUPER creamy mouth feel and absolutely no booze in the flavor. If you like Citra hops, this beer is sublime!
New Year's Eve gave us a rowdy afternoon at Chuck E. Cheese's. It was a New Year's Eve birthday party for our neighbor's daughter. Thanks to the new grown up friendly menu we had a great time!
We kept if low key for the evening. We stayed in with the kids, cozied up on the couch watching a movie, "The Brothers Grimm." We got the kids in bed at 9pm and Derek and I stayed up watching a couple episodes of "Gotham" and went to bed sometime after 11pm, completely missing the ball drop.
It was glorious!
Double Dry Hopped Oh...
Other Half Brewing Company
We paired our low key New Year's Eve with DDH Oh... The pour looked like a dreamy, creamy, orange smoothie. The taste was not disappointing!
Derek's Taste -
This was an orange and pineapple tropical juice with a creamy mouth feel. It drinks very big for a 6% beer, but in the best of ways
